Dedham, Essex
Residential

Dedham Village lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has a rich variety of architectural styles from a range of historical periods.  This, along with its peaceful landscape makes Dedham one of the most popular (and most photographed) villages in England. Sir Alfred James Munnings, known as having been one of England's finest painters of horses, lived in Dedham until 1959

The existing property was marketed from Summer 2017 and had 68 unsuccessful viewings before the Applicant exchanged contracts in March 2018.  The current configuration was deemed unsuitable by all previous viewers.  The applicant was committed to using the existing building and not reverting to the 2013 Planning Consent to demolish the property and build a characterless chalet bungalow in its place.

The brief was to extend and re-order the floor plans of the existing property to create an attractive home that would  suit the client’s needs and add value to the property. The proposed timber framed extension was very carefully designed to be of an appropriate scale and massing to fit comfortably with the existing building. The use of the mandrel roof profile on the extension and east facing dormer window are inarguably in keeping with the character of the existing building.
